|Subject:||OPPOSE ABUSIVE EMERGENCY COUNCIL ACTION – Agenda Item F|
|Message||Dear Council Member,
While the Covid-19 pandemic has required swift action by policy makers across the country, we oppose rash legislation that at best has a tangential relationship with the current crises. Agenda item F for the April 21st Oakland City Council Meeting proposes 60+ changes to three separate ordinances that are significant and require far more deliberation than 48 hours of notice to the public.
These changes are nothing more than a transparent attempt to implement the tenant activists’ wish-list that presumably could not be passed without the cover of a global pandemic and under the guise of an “emergency” ordinance. If these changes were truly related to the public health crises, they would be limited in nature and would end at the conclusion of the COVID-19 crises.
I strongly oppose this abuse of emergency powers.
